Separation from the United States of America
On January 25, 2025 the Greater Korean Republic had launched an invasion following a freak EMP of the United States power grid. Many still suspect it was the GKR’s satellite; however, no tangible evidence exists to prove such yet. With outgoing President Jon Huntsman being made aware of the situation, he crafted several protocols to brief his successor on as to what proper action to take. With America still reeling from the Second Great Depression, the United States military had been severely downsized and technology had all but stagnated in the once powerful nation, even so, the United States was still a formidable threat to the Korean People’s Army. With the EMP and the hacking and disabling of key intelligence programs, the Korean government had managed to not only seize Hawaii and Alaska but also pushed into the Homeland, effectively scattering the disorganized military of America.
Pushing from San Francisco all the way to the Mississippi River, state by state would quickly fall under the occupation of the Greater Korean Republic. Many American military would make their escape into Canada or Mexico in an effort to regroup; however, due to the breakdown in relations between the three nations, many soldiers could only sneak by the Canadian border while Mexican Federales would shoot border crossers with lethal force. Upon the seizure of the Mississippi however, the Korean government would enact a most sinister plan, Operation: Water Snake which would erect a lethal border splitting the United States into two.
Relations with the Greater Korean Republic
Officially, the Democratic People’s Republic of America is a profound ally of the Kim Jong-un administration and a nation unto itself. Korean messages and overtures of peace and prosperity ring out internationally hoping to draw more allies and supporters of the Juche Ideology. This is a lie. The occupied states, often called the liberated states, are in fact a mere puppet of the Korean government and enact laws that bring about great suffering and famine to the occupied people. While there are collaborators within the DPRA government, they do so as a means to protect the people in the Occupied States.
Officially they denounce their Eastern brethren as “Imperialist, Capitalist War-Mongers” however; the truth is that they long to be reunited as a full nation. President Charles Rubio secretly harbors a fanatic hatred of the GKR; however, he is wise to mask such discontent as they would replace him with one more agreeable to their whims which would bring about even more suffering to an already defeated nation.
Relations with the United States of America
Though they are countrymen divided by occupation and an irradiated Mississippi River, the relations between these two nations has been considered worse than the formerly divided Koreas. While the average citizen looks upon the People’s Republic with discontent, it is not because of a pathological hatred of their brethren, but rather the true enemy of America. In the People’s Republic, the citizens keep their heads down and do their part to resist, but in a way to keep themselves safe. For his part, President Rubio works with the Korean government to try and establish a sense that the country is ready to exist independently of the GKR; however, he is very well aware that day may never come. President Strong meanwhile gathers support to reclaim the Western United States even though he fears that due to the economic situation in most other countries it will be a long time before support is able to arrive.
Relations between the two Presidents are rather odd. On the surface, Rubio denounces Strong as a man willing to harm the People’s Republic of America; however, this is merely a pretense established by Rubio to keep up the façade of being a supporter of Kim Jong-un. In secret, Rubio and Strong maintain a correspondence utilizing former Presidential codenames (Rubio having taken Timberwolf and Strong using Renegade.) to the untrained eye many inspectors would think it was a correspondence between former President George W. Bush and former President Barack Obama. Each letter would give accurate descriptions of military bases, manpower, and weapons at the disposal of the Korean People’s Army or plans for further attacks on the United States. It is through this that the United States had been ready for the Iranian attack from the Gulf of Mexico and the seizure of New York rather than the entire East Coast being seized as a colony.
